Die-Cast Custom Medals
Die-cast medals are the fully bespoke option: your design is cut into a steel mould (die) and the medal is cast in metal, so the shape, relief and detail are entirely yours — not a round blank with a sticker on it. How Custom Medals Are Designed and Produced
Understanding the production route helps you plan the order — especially the timeline. It works like this:
- The die (mould) — for die-cast medals, your approved artwork is used to cut a steel mould. The mould is a one-time stage at the start of the order, and it is the main reason custom medals need more lead time than stock items. Once made, the same mould can be re-used for repeat orders of the same design.
- 2D and 3D designs — most event logos work as a 2D relief design, where raised and recessed areas of metal create the detail. For mascots, faces and landmark designs, a 3D relief gives rounded, sculpted detail. We will advise which your artwork suits before the mould is cut.
- Enamel colours — recessed areas of the design can be filled with hard or soft enamel in your brand or event colours, matched to your references. Enamel is what makes a medal look finished rather than plain metal, and it can be combined with polished raised metal for contrast.
- Printed and engraved designs — not every medal is cast. Flat designs can be printed in full colour (with a clear epoxy dome for protection and shine), and names, dates and categories can be laser engraved — the route used on our glass medals and for personalising individual awards.

How far in advance should I order custom medals?

Can I put my logo and event name on the medals?
Yes — that is the point of the service. Your logo and event artwork can be cast into a die-cast medal, printed as a centre insert on a stock medal, UV printed or laser engraved on a glass medal, and your event name or sponsor branding can also be printed along the ribbon. You approve a digital proof before production starts.
What finishes do medals come in?
The standard finishes are polished gold, silver and bronze — supplied as matched placing sets — plus antique gold, silver and bronze for a softer, heritage look that shows relief detail well. Matte and two-tone finishes are available on many designs for corporate medals. Enamel colours can be added to recessed areas of die-cast designs in your brand colours.
Can the ribbons be printed with our event name or colours?
Yes. Alongside plain ribbons in standard colours and flag-colour ribbon lanyards, we supply fully custom printed ribbons with your event name, sponsor logos or slogan repeated along the ribbon. Printed ribbons are one of the most visible branding elements in event photography, so they are worth planning with the medal design, not after it.

Can each medal carry a different name?
Yes, on the personalisation routes — individual names, categories or dates can be laser engraved or printed on stock and glass medals, which is how schools and companies usually handle winner names. On die-cast medals the design is fixed by the mould, so individual names are added by engraving on the reverse after casting. Send us the name list with your order and we will build it into the proof.
